Little Library

Work:
To replace the demolished original library in Beach House Gardens Worthing.

Wood:
Softwood and Marine Ply.

Special features:
The new little library had to be a similar size to the previous one so it would fit onto the post set into the park. We decided to make it as strong as we could so it might last a little longer and provide a real service for local residents and children. All the joints were morticed and tennoned, the frame of the whole box was made without screws to make it as strong as possible. The roof was slated to provide a degree of weatherproofing of the books.

On site / Workshop:
Made and undercoated in the workshop, delivered to the Free Little Library Worthing to be decorated by local artists.

Sailing Club – First Aid Cabinet

Work:
We were asked by our local sailing club to build them a first aid cabinet with shelves above to mount the AED on. Other than that we were given no direction so decided to have some fun with it.

Wood:
Oak with Walnut inlays.

Special features:
We decided to loosely base the look of the cabinet on the shapes of a boat, the curves of the open shelf unit were designed to look like a spinnaker and the curve of the top and sweep to the meeting stiles of the doors was designed to look like the bow of a boat. The inlay on the middle shelf is Morse code for SOS.

On site / Workshop:
All made and finished in the workshop.

Mid Century Wardrobes

Work:
Our customer had a love of Mid Century furniture and wanted a pair of wardrobes that would compliment their existing furniture but that suited their practical needs.

Wood:
French Oak and Painted Tulip.

Special features:
Both Wardrobes were to be identical externally and freestanding. One had two hanging rails the top one being a pull down rail. The other held a chest of drawers and a couple of shelves for bulkier items. Both Wardrobes had to be assembled in the room due to staircase restrictions but also had to be able to be disassembled in case of relocation. The Pillars and legs had to be turned on a lathe which was something new for us but worked really well.

On site / Workshop:
Everything was built in the workshop, taken apart for transport and rebuilt in the room.

Curved Drawers for curved walls

Work:
2 Chests of Drawers

Wood:
French Oak Framed, dovetailed birch ply drawers with painted MDF cabinet and drawer fronts.

Special features:
These two chests were designed to fit into a bedroom which had walls and ceiling made in one continuous arch. The back legs had to be made to a template so that the curves all matched the wall. The drawer boxes were then sat within the oak frame. The drawers were all push to open.

On site / Workshop:
Made in the workshop and delivered finished. (It took 4 of us to get them up the stairs!)

Bedroom Cabinets for a loft room

Work:
Fitted Bedroom Furniture

Wood:
Painted MDF and Quarter Sawn French Oak for the drawers.

Special features:
We were contacted by a developer to make a set of bedroom furniture for an awkwardly shaped master bedroom of a new development. All the items had to fit into the angled walls to make the best use of the space without crowding the floor space. All the drawers had to be push to open. Lights were hidden in shelving units. It took 2 days of templating and laser lines to plan this one and make sure everything joined up correctly.

On site / Workshop:
All made and painted in the workshop. The final assembly of the larger wardrobes was done on site due to a tight staircase.

Modern Kitchen

Work:
Modern Oak Kitchen with solid tops.

Wood:
French Oak

Special features:
The main piece of design input from the customer on this job was that the larders at the end of the room have hide away doors so they can be left open without restricting the space around the island. The Larder doors also line up with the integrated fridge and freezer doors below despite being made separately  making this happen was the hardest part of the job. It was also our first time using Maia Solid worktops; they were polished to give a seamless and joint free finish.

On site / workshop:
Made in the workshop, fitted on site
